Ekovir 200 by John Lee is an antibiotic drug. It contains the active substance Acyclovir, which is an antiviral medication. Acyclovir is used in medicine to treat infections that are caused by viruses. This includes herpes simplex virus infections, chickenpox, and shingles. It is sometimes used off-label in combination with a steroid (usually Prednisolone) to treat Bell’s palsy. It can additionally be used to treat acne and post injection pain and inflammation after a steroid injection.

Effects of the drug

Acyclovir works by inhibiting the multiplication of viral DNA in the body. The drug does not cure the virus in the body but will reduce the symptoms of infections. The drug is able to reduce how severe symptoms are and how long they last. For viral infections, it is able to stop skin sores and acne from forming and helps them to heal much quicker. It can also help to prevent the spreading of viruses in those who have a weak immune system. Acyclovir can also reduce pain, irritation and inflammation of the skin in areas where there is a sore, acne or at an injection site.

How to take it

The recommended dosage of Acyclovir highly depends on the individual characteristics of your body and the severity of the condition you want to treat. In order for this medication to be effective, it must be taken every 4 hours since the half-life of Acyclovir is 2.5-4 hours. A typical dosage for acne and inflammation is 200mg every 4 hours, five times per day, for 5 days. For genital herpes, the typical initial dosage is 200mg every 4 hours, five times per day, for 10 days. Typical dosage for prevention of recurrent herpes is 400 mg twice per day, every day for up to 12 months. Shingles typical dosage is 800mg every 4 hours, five times per day for 7–10 days. Chickenpox typical dosage is 800mg four times per day for 5 days. Start this drug as soon as your first symptom of chickenpox appears. John Lee produces this product in tablets of 200mg, so a good dosage to start on is 1 tablet and then assess how your body reacts to that dosage. While taking this medication, it is highly recommended to drink plenty of water and reduce the amount of calcium consumed in your diet.
